the Gymternet answers

I don’t spend much time on message boards or Tumblr. I see too many simple questions (try Google.com first) and too many repeated questions.

Instead of answering questions one at a time on her Tumblr, Lauren Hopkins plans to collect the most popular questions and answer them on The Gymternet.

Good idea. 🙂

Has there been anymore information coming out from Canada about what the heck is going on with Victoria Moors? …

Who do you think USA is going to send to Worlds this year?

How do you think Russia will do compared to the U.S. at Worlds based on how the Russian Cup is going?

At what point do you think kids trying to make the national team should just go back to level 10? A certain age? Progression of skills?

To read the answers to those and more, click over to Gymternet – YOU ASKED, THE GYMTERNET ANSWERED!

The latest Gymnastics Canada post does not even mention Victoria Moors, by the way. Not a good sign. Without Tori, Canada’s team at World’s will not be a lock for Team Finals.

Minnesota’s Meg Stephenson resigns

University of Minnesota women’s gymnastics head coach Meg Stephenson, who had been with the program for almost two decades, resigned on Thursday amid an investigation of sexual harassment within the program.

A University investigation in the spring found that the former coach had violated the school’s anti-retaliation policies following an investigation into her husband and former volunteer assistant coach Jim Stephenson’s behaviors with team members. Jim Stephenson resigned last fall. …

Jim Stephenson held the title of head coach for 17 years and soon after, Meg Stephenson joined as an assistant coach. From 1999-2009 the couple led the program as co-head coaches. …

The program’s two assistant coaches, Jenny Hansen and Louie Johnson, will keep their current positions as the athletic department conducts a coaching search, the University said in a release Thursday. …

Sam Mikulak – Horizontal Bar

Not brilliant. But a gutsy go-for-it attitude with late regrasps on BIG releases. He deserved the come back win in the AA.

MAG Russian Cup prelims & AA

1. Nikita Ignatyev 90.650
2. David Belyavskiy 86.450
3. Mikhail Kudashov 86.200
4. Danil Kazachkov 85.250
5. Ivan Stretovich 85.200
6. Roman Suyetin 84.300

-Nikita Ignatyev won the all around – WHAT?! I couldn’t be more surprised. He’s one of the most inconsistent gymnasts ever, yet today he managed to hit 6-6, win the all-around, and crack over 90! I love his character more than his gymnastics, but I have to hand it to him for the way he performed today. He was just on the entire day. Here’s hoping his experience at Europeans was motivation to succeed.

-David Belyavskiy didn’t have a great day. …

Denis Ablyazin looks ready for Worlds. Hell, he looked ready for Worlds right after Europeans. … He truly is the rock of the Russian team on his three events.

Ivan Stretovich and Artur Dalaloyan are the real deal. Neither had the best competition, but they ooze ridiculous amounts of young talent. Dalaloyan has the most perfect form of any male gymnast in the world right now, including King Kohei. …
