Worlds Silver medalist … who is Manrique?

That’s the question being asked by all kinds of people in Glasgow.

The youngest competitor in the AA has only competed once in an FIG World Cup meet.

Manrique

We know him well in the new World. He probably should have won Pan-Am Games over Sam Mikulak this summer.

In Toronto he was quite the showman. Perhaps too much. Some officials felt he celebrated too much.

In Glasgow he was much more restrained. Aside from this. 🙂

His coach is Carlos Gil.

Manrique’s goal is to win a medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

Manrique has not qualified yet to the AA for Rio, however. (Only apparatus medalists at Worlds get a personal ticket to the Olympics.) He’ll need to get a medal on Floor, P Bars or H Bar. … Or compete AA at the Test Meet and qualify there. Should be no problem – barring injury.

His role models are Erick Lopez, Casimiro Suarez and Emilio Sagre. Cuba has a long and proud history at the World Gymnastics Championships. It’s wonderful to see them back.
