FIG Age Group Programme

We are delighted to announce that the FIG Age Group Development and Competition Programme is now ready for worldwide access via the FIG website. The development and distribution of this comprehensive programme has been partially funded by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since its conception five years ago. In that time it has been introduced around the world in 58 training sessions hosted by 40 countries with 1400 coaches and a similar number of gymnasts from 88 member federations. …

The technical manuals for the FIG Age Group Development and Competition Programme for Men’s (MAG) and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) are now available online in the French, Spanish and English languages. They can be found on the FIG website under Education. …

These manuals will be supplemented with about 400 videos of each component of the physical testing, technical testing and compulsory exercises all of which will be uploaded soon. …

This programme is intended to serve as an athlete centered “recipe” for federations that do not have the expertise or resources to develop their own programmes. They are intended to safely and systematically prepare gymnasts towards high performance below the junior level. …

I’m optimistic that some developing nations, some regions, some continents will offer Age Group international competitions in High Performance Levels 3 and 4 (HP3 & HP4).
