@OnoNoKomachi1 posted a graph of the loss of D1 teams since 1982. Green is Division 1 Women’s Gymnastics. Purple is Division 1 Men’s Gymnastics.
She notes that both Men’s and Women’s team numbers were “crashing” until the introduction of Title IX legislation. Title IX did help women’s College sport, including Gymnastics.
Those stats came from an NCAA® document called Sports Sponsorship and Participation Rates Report.
Hopefully both MAG and WAG have bottomed out. And we can dream of new teams being added.
Lindenwood, a new in 2012-2013 Division 2 school, was ranked 50th of 82 teams on Road to Nationals. They scored 195.800 this season!
George Washington University just went from 6 scholarships to 12 scholarships.
There is hope.
