Lais de Souza – lifetime pension

A Brazilian athlete paralyzed while training for the aerial ski competition at last year’s Winter Olympics will get a lifetime pension.

Brazil President Dilma Rousseff approved a special law that provides funds to Lais de Souza, a 26-year-old former gymnast who hit a tree during a training run in January 2014.

The accident happened days before she would have been named as a qualifier for the Sochi Olympics. De Souza, who represented Brazil in gymnastics at the Athens and Beijing summer games, is confined to a wheelchair, unable to move her arms or legs. …
