The meet was actually two meets rolled into one: There was the France/Romania Junior, which happened over two days, but there was also a “Test Match” between France’s top Espoir gymnasts, held concurrently with the France/Romania event finals.
The goal was to get the Espoirs, all born in 2000 or 2001, performing in front of a full arena, as they will be at next year’s Junior Europeans. And yes, they had some nervous moments, but on the whole these 12- and 13-year-olds demonstrated an exceptionally high level of difficulty, which bodes well for the French team in the future. …
