Canada had a strong Men’s Artistic Team in Beijing. But did not qualify for the 2012 Games, finishing 13th. The top 12 teams go.
In the past, this would have meant that Canada could send two Olympians. In 2000, for example, Sasha Jeltkov & Kyle Shewfelt were sent.
But due to team size changes, for London the 13th – 16th place teams qualify only one athlete. Here’s how Canada is choosing:
Underlying Principles of the Selection Process:
1. The primary goal is the selection of an individual who can demonstrate an ability to qualify for Apparatus Finals on one or more apparatus.
2. If the primary goal cannot be attained, the secondary goal is to select an athlete born in 1990 or later, with a high probability of being a member of the 2016 Olympic Team.
