… Paul Karnjenko (City of Glasgow GC) won the U12 title with a score of 65.800, 7 points clear of second place.
The U14 title was won by Auchterarder’s Thomas Cameron and the U16 by City of Newcastle’s Jamie Carpenter.
There were only two competitors in the junior event with Finlay Clarke of Hinkley narrowly beating James Griffin (West Lothian Artistic) to first place.
The senior all around title went to Tom Barnes (Rushmoor) who scored 73.500 AA, with a particularly high floor score of 13.450. The Dave Scollon Memorial trophy was awarded to West Lothian Artistic’s Lucas Thomson for displaying the greatest degree of artistry throughout the competition.
In the WA event Emily Ford of Perth was awarded the espoir trophy with a score of 41.50.
City of Glasgow’s Cara Kennedy won the junior championships title, scoring 46.383.
The 2012 Senior Championships title went to City of Glasgow’s Amy Regan for the third consecutive year with a score of 48.00. …
MA National Coach Jim Holt said “I think the men did a great job at the 2012 Scottish National Championships. We’ve been working to change the culture of men’s gymnastics in Scotland, and it is clear that the squad is buying into our positive and success-oriented approach. There were a few mistakes of course, but mistakes for the “right reasons.” Most if not all the breaks were a result of gymnast’s putting in new and more difficult skills. The guys remembered to pay attention to “presenting”, and fought hard to stick landings. I am very proud of ‘my guys’, and am looking forward to making a statement at British Championships in June.” …
