Olympics 25x more important than Commonwealths

If you are not from a Commonwealth nation, you might be dumbstruck at how important we fans consider the Commonwealth Games.

You’d be right.

All multi-sport Games pitting huge, rich nations against tiny, poor ones are stupid. And Commonwealths are as stupid as any.

The Olympics are, obviously, far more important.

The savvy number crunchers in Singapore have a formula:

… Their policy is $1,000,000 for Olympic Games gold (medal) and $40,000 for Commonwealth gold – a 25-fold difference. Asian Games are ranked five-fold more valuable than Commonwealth Gold …

That’s about right.

Still, I love Commonwealths. And I’m already looking forward to 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast City, Queensland, Australia.

related – some paid journalist for the Hindu Times wrote “the programme for Gold Coast 2018 already locked and basketball set to replace gymnastics“.

Wrong. Basketball will replace Judo for 2018. Artistic and Rhythmic are in.

The Aussies love sport. That’s going to be a great event.

For 2022 it will be or Durban, South Africa or Edmonton, Canada (again). I volunteered at the 1978 Edmonton Games. 🙂
