Japanese acrobatic illusion

This seems to come from a 1907 film called Les Kiriki, acrobates japonais (original title). More recently it’s called Kiri-Kis.

A simple but effective illusion.

A color film in 1907? Something seems fishy.

Perhaps it was “colourized” decades later ??

naahhh…….
it’s a film made in France, released in January 1908 (shot in 1907)………
presumably, all blog readers understand that it’s a “trick” film with “stop-motion”, i.e.the George Melies school of magical filmmaking……the camera is directly vertical to the performers…..
this kind of thing is a regular feature of early French film….
the films were shot with black and white film stock, but “hand colored” frame by frame in the studios contemporary to the production of the films………
I can’t specifically give a site, but at New York’s MoMA I saw a hand tinted film of French gymnasts on parallel bars from 1897 a few years back………would be thrilled to discuss film history, and to learn from anyone who knows about gymnastics on film at any point at any time…..
yes Rick, Bragglia continues to press upon/impress me…….
