When I lived in New Zealand, I had to buy a multi-region DVD player. Computers only allow you to switch regions a few times before they lock up.
I watched about 3 seconds of this on my cell phone this morning – brutal crap.
MissEducated, check online to see the unlock codes for your DVD player. Most can be made region free with nothing but a few key presses. Sites such as http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks have region free codes listed for many players. In Canada any cheap Philips DVD player can be made region free (or Macrovision free) with just a few clicks of your remote.
Oh, and before somebody points out the obvious, once your Philips DVD player is unlocked as long as the output is set correctly (PAL for Europe, NTSC for NA) the framerate and acpect conversion is done automatically on the fly.
