future USA Rings star CJ Maestas

Most nations need at least one Rings specialist on their National Team.

Kevin Tan, for example, was a lock for Beijing because he had the highest potential Ring score for the USA.

CJ Maestas (Gold Cup) just might be that guy in future. He easily won Rings for LEVEL 10 (16-18) at J.O. Nationals 2009. And also won Parallel Bars. Results.

Short on holds. Certainly. But an amazing routine for his age. CJ’ll only get better and better for the next 10 years!

I believe CJ has one more year at club level. Nobody, and I mean nobody, at the club level can do what he can do on rings. He’s very good on PB as well, and he’s obviously no slouch in the AA. The current crop of level 10s in both age groups is nothing short of outstanding. ’12 and ’16 is looking very promising for the USA.

I know of a gymnast who is also very good at rings. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQ_X_7pTeMU&feature=channel_page
He received a bicep injury at nationals and had to drop out.

I dissagree with StickItMedia. There is one other person who would have had a pretty good shot at BEATING CJ had he not been injured right before Nationals: Scott Rosenthal.

Check out this video of him training for Nationals: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tM4gHJ9N2LQ

He does his full rings routine (minus the dismount) starting about 40 seconds in.

A little more info about Scott: he’s graduating this year, and will be joining the team at Penn State.
