best in-gym camcorder?

I use Panasonic HDC-SD5 camcorder I bought in December 2007 for about US$1000. Including some accessories.

It’s great. But $1000!

Gymnastics video guru coach Don Eckert at Woodward West Camp was the first I saw using an iPhone to demonstrate specific drills to gymnast.

Coach Ed Louie uses one of the inexpensive Sanyo Xacti series. He paid less than US$200. For in-gym use, I think it’s better than mine. Faster. The playback is clearer. It has frame-by-frame advance.

Here’s an up-to-date waterproof version.

Would waterproof be chalkproof too? Or at least, chalkresistant?

Chalk proof?

I would think so.

Good point.

Just interested in what people are doing for playback of their video?

Ed mainly plays back on the camcorder.

I normally save specific clips on my laptop in videos dedicated to each athlete. Software is iMovie.

I’ve used mine in the gym primarily for review. Mine is neither waterproof nor chalkproof but like Ed’s it’s only $200 and therefore I consider it to be a disposable item in case of failure. Practicality above all else, I’ve let kids handle it on their own even with chalky hands for years and it’s still running perfect.
