Dancing with Shawn Johnson week 3

Here’s a look at Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson’s elegant Fox Trot from last night’s Dancing with the Stars performance show. Johnson earned a 27 from the judges for this performance, which puts her in a tie for first place with French actor Gilles Marini and reality star Melissa Rycroft.

Her outfits really work.

Nastia turned down a chance to be on the show this season. Could be the LA Times got this one wrong. Several have commented saying that Nastia was not offered a spot this season.

UPDATE: Nastia on Dancing with the Stars?

I’ll wager she’ll be on the series one day in the future. After seeing how well Shawn is doing.

the story that Nastia was offered DWTS is a lie. This did not happen it was just put out there by her agent. ABC wanted one gymnast, Shawn.

I agree with Bob… I moderate a DWTS community on livejournal and We get almost every report of anything being offered a spot on the show. We’ve heard nothing about this until now. There will be a lot of reports like this saying “oh I was offered a spot…” but most of them aren’t true.

Until I hear an ABC producer come out and say Nastia wasn’t asked, I will believe she was. I think it was a smart decision to turn it down considering she is so close to making history.

Shawn is looking good on the show. She has a good chance at making that final three.

Nastia was approached. That is the truth. Believe it or not.

Im a shawn fan BUT she is seriously lacking in personality! I think Alicia or Nastia would have been better. She is sorta boring. Thats going to be problematic for her in getting votes beyond the gymnastics community in future weeks.

She was adorable. Awwwww I’m so proud of her.

Nast and her agent concern her popularity very much. I don’t believe they would turn down if she was invited.

Anon, A lot of people say that after the show starts. Even Cindy McCain said she was approached. Doesn’t necessarily mean it’s true.

God knows why ABC wouldn’t have approached Nastia or Alicia before Shawn. Girl is doing ok but can you imagine how much better either of the others would have been?

Given that the rumor was that DWTS wanted to have a kind of couples/rivalry theme this year, makes sense that Liukin would have been approached. Makes her decision to tell them no even smarter. The last thing either girl would want is to be pitted against each other again.

“I think it was a smart decision to turn it down considering she is so close to making history.”

But now she is still letting “celebrity” stuff get between her and her training. I’ve seen a couple of articles about her recently that imply she is putting training second and it seriously makes me worry that she is going to pull a Moceanu. You know, come back after being on tour and whatnot and barely make the world team.

Nastia was approached before Shawn. Period. (And believe me or not but it just makes good common sense they’d go for the biggest get-Olympic champ-first.) She then suggested Alicia, but the producers went for Shawn. They wanted a gold medalist. Nastia talked about it long before the show started. The fact that whoever runs this website is taking the word of commenters (including this one) before the LA Times is ridiculous! They verify things they print and if it was not true, ABC would be all over them. I know, personally, that months and months ago, long before Shawn’s name was even mentioned, Nastia was weighing that opportunity. She decided she’d rather go to Worlds, while she’s healthy, at least one more time instead. This doesn’t make Shawn’s appearance any less.

Shawn is doing SO great on the show! :) I think both she and Nastia are great. It doesn’t matter if Nastia was asked to be on the show or not. She isn’t on there. Let’s just let that go.

Good point anon.

It’s not likely the LA Times would get that wrong.

I’ve updated the original post to include a link to a summary of that evidence:

The LA Times quoted Nastia’s agent as saying she was asked but they never asked ABC if it was true. ABC doesnt comment on casting rumors. For instance Donnie Osmond saying he was asked to do the show then having to own up to the fact that he wasnt asked but really wanted to be part of DWTS. I think that’s what we have here. Nastia really wants to do the show but they wont have her. I have insider information that Shawn was the first last and only gymnast that ABC wanted on the show. She’s America’s sweetheart and one of the very first celebrities cast on the show. It appears as though Nastia and her representation might have a case of the jealousies????

Shawn is still a media darlings although she didn’t get AA gold. Media gave her much more coverage than Nast in Olympics, based on Shawn has approachable personality and attracting smile, so somebody reminds her as Mary Lou. Other little reason that Shawn is born in US.

Non-gymnastics hardcore fans do not mind the difference of AA or Beam gold. So it is not strange that ABC prefers Shawn in DWTS.

Plus Shawn is a way better gymnast.
