Some MAG stats from Jeff Thomson, Gymnastics Canada:
The highest Execution (B) Score by any athlete at the Beijing Olympics was Kyle Shewfelt on Vault with a
9.79.75.

Those were Kyle’s 3rd Olympics.
If the Olympic Games were judged only on Execution …
Average B scores were:
1) China 9.12
2) Japan 9.03
3) Germany 9.03
4) Canada 9.01
UPDATE: Those statistics from the preliminary Team competition.
One commenter points out that Marian Dragalescu got a B score of 9.8 on his first vault in event finals. But — just like in 2004 — he missed his second vault. So his combined final B-score was lower than 9.75.

Very interesting!! Are these MAG stats? Be interested to see WAG as well.
That’s not true is it?
Marian Dragalescu got a B score of 9.8 on his first vault in EFs.
I am liking the A/B thing more and more. In the past, there were too many overscored routines, not taking deductions. Like Bilozerchev’s 10.0 on rings with a 45 degree angled planche. I can see how vault is more likely to have near 10.0 or even at 10.0 scores. On all the other events you have gymnasts pushing difficulty and taking earned deductions. Or covering weak spots.
do you know if has Kyle retired?
No, Kyle has not retired.
But he’s not training much as yet. His metal hardware was only removed from his leg late this Fall.
But I don’t expect him to compete at Elite Canada, the meet coming up next.
From Jeff Thomson by email:
I am glad you commented on this because it pointed out a mistake in my newsletter. Kyle scored 9.75 not 9.7. I knew that so I am not sure how I missed it when writing.
As for Marian he may have but I probably ignored it as it would have been in finals and his combing B score average was lower than a 9.75.
Cheers
