The wonderful Aussie Olympian Dasha Joura has a talented younger sister – Natalia Joura.
But in the recent Australian Youth Olympic Festival Natalia had a rotten meet.
Sadly, she was injured under-rotating double pike dismount on Floor. In the words of one observer there, the treatment she got from the coach after the injury was : “disgusting beyond words”.
See for yourself. Click PLAY or watch it on YouTube.
Another spectator, quoted on Australian Gymnastics Blog:
Saddest moment of the day had to be when Natalia fell on her last pass on floor and hurt her ankle. Her coach was sitting only a few steps away and could clearly see that she was in pain but did nothing to assist her. She limped a little bit then was forced to crawl to him. Whilst sitting next to him he continued to ignore her. …
I recommend Natalia find a new coach. One that cares for the person, not only the performance.
… Unfortunately her coach is Vladimir Joura, her Father.

That news doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. I’ve seen it happen with him before. Father/coach relationships are totally hit or miss in my opinion – they either really work or they REALLY don’t.
I think her dad coaches juniors at WAIS and Nikolai Lapchin (Mr Bean) and Martine George coach the seniors, so she may move to new coaches when she gets a bit older
Maybe he knows what he’s doing. Dasha is tough as nails. Break a finger, keep on going.
Hell, in some ways TCO, I have to agree – you gotta let them tough it out sometimes… builds a strong-willed gymnast with less teary’s later on. But I’m not loving the unassisted CRAWL over to the bench seats following the routine. You can be TOUGH, but you can also be sympathetic.
What’s the injury report?
Next thing you know people are going to be having a problem with beating your own kids. Heck, they belong to the parents, people.
TCO whilst I am sure you are trying to provoke a response about beating kids so I will not comment on that, I would argue that no person belongs to anyone else.
