Sheesh, the photos are nice, but any teenager can look nice with that kind of airbrushing/hair and makeup… As for “modeling”, it’s not something you choose to do, it’s something you are chosen for… wouldn’t we all love to “do a little bit of modeling”… If it were not for her gymnastics fame, she wouldn’t be appearing on any magazine covers. Of course, this is my horrible side coming through, but I think she can look strangely ugly at times.
I have the greatest appreciation and respect for her gymnastics talent, and her outstanding achievements in sport, but the last thing we need is another Carly Patterson who believes she is destined for far greater things…

The only one who’s acting like modeling is a “greater thing” than gymnastics is you. Obviously, Nastia probably wouldn’t be doing any modeling if she wasn’t a star athlete. So what?! She has the luxury of deciding that it’s something fun and entertaining that she wants to do a little of on the side because of that gymnastics talent and those outstanding achievements you claim to appreciate and respect so much. The fame from that is why she has been “chosen,” as you put it, for modeling. No need to hate.
In addition, I’d recommend any of a multitude of fashion-based reality television shows to you if you genuinely think that taking any random teenager off of the street, dressing them up, and airbrushing them would result in good pictures.
Also, seriously, what is with the massive grudge against Carly Patterson amongst gym fans? I mean, I was never a fan of her gymnastically, but she was a sixteen-year-old girl who achieved the ultimate thing she could achieve in the sport that she’d dedicated her life to up until that point and, thus, she was satisfied and decided to do something else. Big deal.
really Nastia did a photo shoot for an obscure online magazine and all of a sudden she going to think she’s too good for gymnastics really?! all Nastia expressed is that she had an interest in modeling what was so wrong with that?
and i wish people would let Carly go. she suffers from a prolong back injury. did u really hope she compete through all that pain so more when she already won the biggest prize there is? i would hope not. so she decided to do something else. she has to make a living doesn’t she? good for her she’s pursuing another passion in life it may not be ur passion but it is hers. let her be.

Actually my dad made a comment that maybe Nadia could crossover and use her career to stem off into a career in the pop culture. Khorkina was a name in Russia ( though I’m sure posing for Playboy helped a lot ). A lot of athletes have tried to spin off their careers into the public forary. You need personality and looks besides a good PR machine. Luckily it seems she has the latter with all of her promotions in the past year equaling a couple mil from what I hear.
Not all of the awesome gymnasts out there are 9’s in the looks department. Yes, I’m a guy but it’s true it helps to be a good looker to break into that culture. I think Sacramone would have a better shot, but I might just be biased. Also, being older, she had a bit more of personality than just being a kid. Yes, maybe I spent too much time seeing if the other gymnasts in the olympics were lookers besides the collegiate gymnasts. Unfortunately, they get almost no fanfare.
I’m sure they can doll her up and she does have the russian ballerina look going on. As for her dabbling into modeling, I’m sure many teenage girls wouldn’t mind that but it’s an insane culture. Insane is not even the right word. It makes the gymnastics culture seem normal.
Whether she has the personality to carry it over will be one thing and the where with all to take it all the way instead of just dabble and go about her life like many gymnasts or athletes do is the final point.
Nastia is being well marketed by her agent that Valerie picked. Heck, he has done a good job of marketing her in gym. But she can’t do a double back. Pathetic.

I agree with Rawles. She’s modeling because of her success with gymnastics and why shouldn’t she enjoy it?

Many famous people get chosen to do stuff they wouldn’t have been chosen to do if they weren’t famous. That is just a well known part of the biz. It’s a little silly to claim that Nastia can’t model when she’s doing exactly what so many other people in her position have been able to do.

Who decided that everyone should have to do one? Your comments are annoying and completely unwarranted. These people are discussing some photos, not her gymnastics.
And calling it “pathetic” that she chooses to work to her strenghts? Please. There’s a reason that no one likes you, it is because you are annoying.
