Free Running – less free in the U.K.

It had to happen.

And coaches can be certified in this “new and rapidly developing activity” starting Nov. 22nd: Introduction to Freestyle Gymnastics

I wrote the syllabus for this course. It was a logical step with regards to this sport/discipline, and is designed to give gymnastics coaches the necessary qualification and insurance to teach what are essentially gymnastics elements, albeit with a few variations. The course covers the technique behind a range of common “free-running” skills, but most perhaps most importantly it will instruct coaches on areas that they will be less familiar with, such as the differences required in the organisation of a free-style class as opposed to a regular gymnastics class. I have been working within this sport for several years now and have a highly successful class, and we hope to pass on some of our experience to other clubs around the country to ensure that these skills are taught safely, correctly and in an appropriate environment.

Love the website.

Kind regards,

Anthony Rose

” The discipline of Freerunning now has an official world champion in the form of Gabriel ‘Jaywalker’ Nunez (USA). 2nd place went to Tim ‘Livewire’ Shieff (UK) and 3rd to Ben ‘Jenx’ Jenkin (UK). ”

As you can see from the comments, not everybody is pleased with his win. I’m very impressed with the videos of Tim and Ben myself.

According to the youtube channel for the event, the other competitors actually judged the competition.

” Each athlete performed to his own individual soundtrack and was judged on his athletic skill, creativity and technical ability by his fellow competitors. “

“what are essentially gymnastics elements, albeit with a few variations.”

Obviously you have never really understood parkour or freerunning then. Completely different thing to gymnastics. Never done indoors for a start – ignore what you see on money-making groups like urban freeflow, and their ridiculous world championships. That is nothing to do with parkour.

Its a way of thinking and living, and testing the body and mind in every way. Not just a few gymnastic tricks on soft mats!

And official world champion?! that guy should hang his head in shame for even being involved with the urban freeflow farce.
