I recall when Jim McLuskey told me he was going to build a climbing wall over the pit at Mountain Shadows Gymnastics. Brilliant. This was the first time I had heard of the concept.

But in 2006 kids are no longer allowed to use this climbing wall due to problems with insurance coverage. What a shame.
Other clubs only allow kids to climb very low on a wall.
To me as a coach, it seems a perfect marriage of training equipment.

Rick… I was checking out your page again and recognized our climbing wall at Mountain Shadows Recreation Centre. Yes, I agree, it is a shame. So many kids who come for not only gymnastics, but also for birthday parties and general fitness are very disappointed when they find out we have closed our wall. I remember as an athlete there was nothing more rewarding after all your effort of climbing up the overhang with no ropes than to jump into the 7 1/2 ‘ deep foam pit. I hope to see other clubs or facilites find an innovative soluntion to continue this idea, I am sure there IS a way, somehow. By the way, I can’t wait to see you this summer! Take care till then!
