STRENGTH – Fitness Straps or gymnastics rings?

It’s no secret that using gymnastics rings is one of the best, fastest ways to develop upper body strength.

But to buy adjustable rings from a gymnastics equipment distributor is expensive. They’ve always been over-priced, I think. Spieth in Canada does not even sell adjustable roof rings.

Here’s a great alternative from WeightVest.com for the gym. Or home.

If $122 is too much for you, fitness guru Kat Ricker prefers an even cheaper option:

… handles hung on chains. These are more versatile than their more glamorous cousin – the rings – because they can easily be adjusted into every possibly degree of proximity to one another, and their level of suspension from the floor can easily be manipulated as well. They’re not just fixed into a ceiling beam for time immemorial. You can move them as often as you like, even during a work out. …

You could hang them on adjustable chains or pulleys wherever you wish.

beauty montage video – gymnastics

Another excellent video from malimalimali123.

I made a montage of the little things that I’ve found beautiful so far this quad, using clips from 2005, 2006 and 2007. I wanted to just use pretty dance clips, or clips of a beautifully executed skill. Let me know what you think!

Hambuchen named Sportsman of the Year in Germany

This is a big deal.

I recall when Kyle Shewfelt was named Canada’s Athlete of the Year ahead of professional athletes in ice hockey and basketball. That’s huge.

In Germany too, this is a really big deal. Congratulations!

2007 World high bar champion Fabian Hambuchen was named Sportsman of the Year in Germany this week, completing what for him has been a year of accomplishment. …

It would be great for our sport if Hambuchen won the Olympic All-around.

… OK, that’s asking a lot in Beijing. But he plans on at least 2 more Olympics after this one.

Good luck.

GemGemz NCAA gymnastics rankings

Yet another pre-season ranking list.

Check out Stanford well up the list at #2. Good call.

And Utah dropping to #5. (The arrival of Canadian Olympian Gael Mackie may keep them in the top 4. We will see.)

1 Georgia

2 Stanford

3 Alabama

4 UCLA

5 Utah

6 Florida

But Florida down #6 ??

They were the best team last season. Something seems wrong there.

… One (to us) surprising artifact of our method was Stanford showing up at number two and Utah showing up at number five. No matter how many variables we added, this relationship between the Utes and the Cardinal remained the same. It seems that, despite Utah’s strong showing at the 2007 Championships in Salt Lake City, their less than stellar 7th place ‘Final RQS Ranking’ hurt their ranking in our poll. At the same time, Stanford not only ended up in 4th place in the RQS standing, but they, like Georgia, return 24 of 24 starting routines from the 2007 Championships. …

According to College Gym Fans:
