gymnastics Finals from Australia

Triple Full has one of their usual excellent reports on Day 1 Event Finals from the Australian Youth Olympic Festival.

Day 1 of the event finals finally saw the host nation win some individual medals, with Emily Little and Britt Greeley going 1-2 in the women’s vault final and the Australian men picking up three medals on floor and rings. The Chinese men also got a few medals, including the gold on rings, but it was the Brits who were the most successful nation, picking up two golds, one silver, and one bronze to add to their tally. …

Triple Full singled out this highlight routine:

She only finished 5th due to the extra kip after errors with the Pak. But that is some sweet swing line.

conditioning for twisting on Floor

Not the best “set” you’ve ever seen.

But many, many gymnasts go through something like this position.

Each time I see this phase of the skill it reminds me to do more specific conditioning for lateral flexion, with rotation.

double full-in on Floor

One of our acrotumblers tried this crazy skill the other day.

He under rotated to prone fall.

Perhaps only two female artistic gymnasts have ever competed it.

Thanks M.L.

=== UPDATE:

From George Novak:

Alexis did it in a pike position. I think she might be the only one that can make that claim. Certainly one of the biggest if not the biggest backward tumbling skill ever performed in competition on floor by a female gymnast. I have some old videos of her at home somewhere accidentally pulling off some pretty impressive triple full-ins into the pit while learning it (getting lost LOL), aged about 10.

Aloha Gymfest this weekend
