I had “heard” that Women’s NCAA Championships would always be held on podium. Starting 2004.

AND that the SEC Championships would always be on podium. In fact, that the SEC owns one.

But SEC Gym on College Gymnastics Board reports that no podium will be used for Championships 2009 in Nebraska.

Too bad.

Perhaps the cost is too great to transport it to Lincoln.

Cirque du Soleil talent scout Stacy Clark pointed me to an “event” on Facebook tomorrow, Saturday, February 14, 2009.

Saturday, Feb. 14th the high profile Men’s session features Cal Berkeley, Stanford, the Norwegian Junior and National Teams and Canadian Elites including Olympian Nathan Gafuik.

The Gold Country Classic is a Co-Ed Gymnastics competition held in San Francisco’s historic Fort Mason’s 30,000 sq ft “Herbst Pavilion” pier located in the Fisherman’s Wharf area of San Francisco.

Based on past Winter Cup competitions that kicked off new quads, I was expecting to see a rough meet. But this year, I was surprised to see a relatively clean competition with athletes who looked well-prepared, focused and eager to take on the new Code—and the next four years. …

Korotky liked Stanford, Alex Buscaglia, Joey Hagerty, Chris Brooks, Guillermo Alvarez, Sho Nakamori and Steve Legendre.

… Steve Legendre also provides some clips for the highlight reel of the night, wowing the crowd with a spectacular floor set, that included a rarely-seen Arabian double front with a full out (earlier this season, he also competed a 2 ½ twisting double layout!). …
