Jacob Small ran into one of the famous gymnasts of all time — Svetlana Boginskaya — at the Springfest Meet hosted by Shenandoah tumblers in Winchester, VA.
I had read that Svetlana had two businesses: “an on-line store of gymnastics attire … and organizing gymnastics summer camps”.
Rumour has it she’s now running, with her husband, a Gourmet Pizzeria in Houston, TX. Though she’s mostly a stay-at-home Mom.
If you want your kids to be coached by Bogi, register them for the Olympia Gymnastics Camp in Waldorf, Maryland.
In a photo from the 2008 camp, that’s Svetlana on the right, Olympian Kerri Strug on the left.

Camp 2009 tentatively set for June 27th – July 1st.

Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson and partner Mark Ballas overcame a technical deduction in their first dance to tie for the evening’s second-highest total on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” Monday.
Johnson and Ballas scored 27 out of 30 points and earned a standing ovation for their first of two dances, the quickstep, but all three judges noted their rules infraction. …

… Later in the show, Johnson and Ballas earned 29 points (their highest total of the season) and another standing ovation for their second dance, the paso doble. …

International Gymnast – Johnson Ties for Second on Monday’s ‘Dancing’
Loved the quickstep. And their costumes have all been great.
Back in the day, the Macho Meet boys competition in Lethbridge was the most popular meet of the year in my region. Great FUN for the gymnasts and coaches both. It was founded by Dan Niehaus, now Head Coach of Cirque du Soleil’s LOVE in Vegas.

Thanks to Westwinds and coach John Tram for putting together the 2009 edition.
At late season competitions like this, clubs bring NEW gymnasts to compete for the first time. This young man joined our competitive team only a couple of months ago.

He was happy with how he did in his first gymnastics competition.
Coach David Sykes brought a crew of gymnasts to this meet, the first competition ever for a new competitive boys program out of Salta Gymnastics in Medicine Hat. We talked about how much more welcoming competitive Men’s gymnastics is for beginners than WAG.
Here’s the winner of the “Crazy Hair” competition. He deserved the victory.

A Canadian gymnast visiting New Zealand trained at the excellent TriStar Gym in Auckland. He had a GREAT time there even as he had to keep up his routines in preparation for Nationals in Canada.
That visit was organized by coach David Phillips.

The NCAA is so much more entertaining to me in 2009 than FIG.
But if you enjoy the International routines, another big event is coming up: May 8 USA vs FRANCE Seniors. And GB vs FRANCE Juniors.

It seems the dangerous Youna Dufournet is not competing for France.
Leave a comment if there are other routines I should post from USA v Germany.
VIOLA ROADKILL reports that Olympic Bar Champion He Kexin is injured:
She broke her left hand training a Rufolva on beam. The national team doctor says she will take about a month to recover.
Also Yang Yilin – out with a back injury.
Cheng Fei competed recently … but has watered down difficulty due to injury.
Is the FIG Code partly to blame?
