When I saw the tiny thumbnail photo of this vault posted on Facebook by International Gymnast magazine, I thought:
WOW. A gymnast with amplitude like Alicia!
When I clicked through to the IG page, however, I found … it was Alicia.

IG Photo of the Day: September 28, 2009 – Alicia Sacramone (U.S.) vaults at the 2005 World Cup in Paris.
I don’t know if we’ll ever see a female gymnast get this much height again.
Alicia announced she would like to make a comeback. Nothing confirmed so far as I’ve heard.
Some good WOGA leap photos posted on IG Forum by Bekah lead to a comparison of two greats.

Reported from several people on Twitter. What a shame. He was one of the 3 main contenders to win the AA.

… A true shocker happened to the German delegation. 2007 World Silver medallist and current European Champion on All Around Fabian Hambuechen (GER) twisted his ankle when practicing a 2½ twisting somersault on Floor, the last piece of apparatus he was working at today’s podium training. He was taken to hospital. At this point in time no predictions on the severeness of the injury or Hambuechen’s participation in the competition could be made.
Japan’s Kohei Uchimura, Beijing Olympic All-around Silver medallist was asked about his position as a top contender here in London and said “past results mean nothing. I am a challenger now and I do not feel any pressure.” …

Age-34, Jani is a great choice. Congratulations.
But I just heard that Nastia was voted the Women’s representative.
An active gymnast?
At her age and stage of life?
Wouldn’t an older, retired athlete be a better pick?
Or it is typical that active athletes are chosen?

Of all the acrobatic activities that should not be “competitions”, Parkour is top of my list.
The running is “Free” … except that you are being evaluated.

1) Compulsories
2) The perfect 10
3) Team competition where everyone on the team has to contribute and it was more then 3 kids from each country have to win a team title.
4) Artistry!!!
5) I miss when the guys didn’t look like they were going to die 5 skills into their routine.
6) When AA guys didn’t have a VERY weak event.
7) The little transitions on floor when you could tell the stylish from the rest.
8) Dance in between the skills on beam and floor.
9) A leap that does not have a switch leg or ring shape in it.
10) Mounts that look good on beam.
