Inside Gymnastics on Facebook

That magazine does a terrific job of updating on both Twitter and Facebook.

If you are using Facebook, find them on this page.

Inside-Gymnastics

As you know, Facebook is confusing. Often I click links from their posts expecting to go to the online magazine, … only to find myself on the Inside Gymnastics Facebook page. Recently Facebook bought Friendfeed, a far better competitor, but one that never caught on. Hopefully Facebook will adopt some of Friendfeed’s simpler “river of news”.

The Inside Gymnastics site seem to crash today during the live broadcast of their Radio show with host John Roethlisberger. The Radio page is back up now. Hopefully they will post it soon so we can listen to a “repeat”.

Better than this, of course, would be a regular gymnastics audiocast available from the Podcast section of iTunes. There are no gymnastics audiocasts available currently.

If you are a Twitterer, follow them at twitter.com/insideGym

Sean Golden on Front Twisting

This is not how I teach forward layout, full twist. But it’s very similar to what is taught by Russian Head Coach Andrei Rodionenko.

Something tells me I should listen to Sean Golden. I already know I need to listen to Andrei!

World Gymnastics Championships London

Good luck and have FUN to everyone going !!

2009 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, a Facebook group, is posting regular updates and photos.

Training-Venue

American coach Hal Halverson is over in London helping organizers. He emailed:

… very very large set up .. seven full mens and womens gym set ups … it is being conducted in the O2 Stadium which was formerly referred to as the Millenium Dome … so some heavy work days ahead …

John Roethlisberger will be there as a commentator for NBC Universal. Great call. He’s one of the best informed and most entertaining colour guys. … What !? … There is no Wikipedia page for John? That’s crazy. Someone correct that oversight. His sister has one.

John will be on Inside Gymnastics Radio tonight LIVE. (Hopefully that episode will be available to stream in a few days … but don’t count on it. Inside Gymnastics has promised and not delivered many times on that terrific, innovative addition to their website.)

Chinese Olympic gymnasts – not yet underage

The Associated Press:

… A ruling on whether China competed with two underage gymnasts at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney has been pushed back until at least next year.

A disciplinary commission of the International Gymnastics Federation told that group’s executive committee, which met Sept. 23-25, that it has yet to finish its investigation.

If the gymnasts were underage, the commission could recommend sanctions to the FIG’s executive committee. It won’t meet again until the end of February, so no decision can come before then …

The gymnasts, Dong Fangxiao and Yang Yun, are suspected of being as young as 14 in Sydney. Gymnasts must turn 16 during an Olympic year to be eligible to compete. …

Senor Nico on IG Forum points out some errors in the AP story. There’s some interesting discussion on that thread too.
