I recall driving from central Canada to U.S. Congress in New Orleans … noting a conspicuous increase in body size as I drove South.

Shout out to Grace Chui and all the photographers over in London for the terrific pics I’ve seen already online, especially on Facebook. This will be the best competition ever, I suspect, for people to see pictures and videos in close to real time.

vaulter as high as Alicia Sacramone

When I saw the tiny thumbnail photo of this vault posted on Facebook by International Gymnast magazine, I thought:

WOW. A gymnast with amplitude like Alicia!

When I clicked through to the IG page, however, I found … it was Alicia.

I don’t know if we’ll ever see a female gymnast get this much height again.

Alicia announced she would like to make a comeback. Nothing confirmed so far as I’ve heard.

Hambuchen has injured his ankle in podium training … he left on crutches

He was taken to hospital. At this point in time no predictions on the severeness of the injury or Hambuechen’s participation in the competition could be made.

Japan’s Kohei Uchimura, Beijing Olympic All-around Silver medallist was asked about his position as a top contender here in London and said “past results mean nothing. I am a challenger now and I do not feel any pressure.” …

Age-34, Jani is a great choice. Congratulations.

But I just heard that Nastia was voted the Women’s representative.

An active gymnast?

At her age and stage of life?

Wouldn’t an older, retired athlete be a better pick?

Or it is typical that active athletes are chosen?
