gymnastics video/photo privacy

When you post photos and videos of gymnasts online, with permission, consider editing your privacy settings to restrict comments.

Here’s an example of how that’s done on flickr.com.

It’s even more important if you post gymnastics videos online.

The biggest problem … idiots making stupid comments.

Francis Allen is back

Legendary Husker’s head coach Francis Allen, who retired June 2009, will be back on the floor today as Nebraska takes on Air Force.

… Allen will take over most of the duties of assistant coach Jim Hartung. …

Hartung, in his seventh year with the program, will still be on the floor Sunday. He plans to remain in coaching, spending as much time as he can with the team. Head coach Chuck Chmelka would not comment on the reason for Hartung’s decision to slow down, citing confidentiality.

interesting Beam mounts

One rule change that everyone would appreciate would be to encourage less boring mounts.

For example, FIG could require that the mount counts for difficulty.

Cheer recruiting demo

We were having lunch in the construction zone at University of Saskachewan, first week of classes in January.

Cheer did a little demo to promote the club and possibly recruit some talent.

That sport sure knows how to promote.

Full Twist delivers the bad news

Beckie:

“I am of course very disappointed to have suffered from this injury, but remain very positive about the future and am looking ahead to working hard with the British Gymnastics Medical Team to ensure that I do everything I can to be in a position to return strongly, and continue my journey towards London 2012.”

Which 2008 U.S. Olympian has the best shot at making 2012?

The latest question on The Discussion:

Bloggers sound a bit flummoxed on this one.

Surprisingly (to myself) … I didn’t name Alicia Sacramone. I picked Nastia … but guestimated there’s only a 10% chance she’ll actually compete in London.

Fact is the USA is in big trouble on Bars when trying to match up against Russia and China. Whoever has the biggest routine will be on the team. That could easily be Nastia, if she’d train.

2011 WOGA Classic

Barb Durfee sends us the list of elite competitors for the 2011 WOGA CLASSIC, Feb 19-20th.

That includes Madeline Gardiner and Anysia Unick (CAN), Anastasiya Marchuk and lrina Yashina (RUS) to name just a few of the great international gymnasts traveling to Texas, the centre of the gymnastics world IMHO.

Gymnastics Examiner links to photos and a full list of the elite competitors.

Of course the WOGA Classic is one of the Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup Series.

The Optional Elite Qualifier is one of only a handful of chances for U.S. elites to qualify to go to the CoverGirl Classic, which is a qualifier to VISA Championships. This is the first U.S. Elite Qualifier of the year, so a lot of girls are hoping to qualify to CoverGirl early, then they can train at a measured pace up until July. If they don’t qualify at this event, they’ll have a couple other changes later in June and July.

See the full schedule including participating teams.

Celebrities not competing include Nastia Liukin, Carly Patterson, Hollie Vise & Rebecca Bross.
