USAG Special Olympics Championships

More than 80 gymnasts competed in the first USA Gymnastics Special Olympics Championships, held May 7, 2011, at the Cobb County Gymnastics Center in Marietta, Ga.

The one-day event featured competition in artistic gymnastics (men, women and unified), rhythmic gymnastics (individual, group and unified) and TeamGym. The competition wrapped up with a gala, which involved all of the athletes.

Gymnasts from 10 states participated …

Anastasia Grishina – Vault

Aunt Joyce, still on a bit of a hiatus, posted all 4 routines from (I think) Grishina’s 59.925 Zakharova Cup AA win. Those scores may have the Russian bonus inflation 1.0, I’m not sure.

2015 Worlds – Orlando Bid

Yesterday Antwerp was awarded what I always call the “unimportant Worlds” (2013), the first after the Olympics. The one won by Bridget Sloan, last time around.

The important World Championships are those qualifying for Olympics.

Here’s the Disney themed USA bid for 2015, the meet that will qualify for Olympics in Brazil.

FIG will announce the 2015 host city Sunday.

Pavlova wins Dityatin 56.500

Two-time Russian Olympian Anna Pavlova won four of five gold medals at the 11th Dityatin Cup, held Wednesday and Thursday in St. Petersburg.

Pavlova, 23, led a Russian sweep of the top seven gymnasts in the senior all-around. Alyona Polyan topped Yulia Lozhechko, a former national team member, for the silver.

Pavlova picked up event golds on every event but uneven bars, which were won by Lithuania’s Laura Svilpaite. …

Russia swept the top four spots in the senior men’s all-around. Dmitry Stolyarov won the title over Denis Ablyazin, Eldar Yunusov and Emin Garibov. …

results and details on IG – Pavlova, Stolyarov Win Alexander Dityatin Cup

I’d love to see Pavlova at Worlds. But Double Front on Facebook is reporting (unofficially) that at Zakharova Cup Women’s AA Final Grishina went 59.925.

Jason Burnett Demo Reel 2011

Olympic Silver medalist Jason Burnett has done more amazing things on tramp than anyone else in history. … I just wish he’d lay off the tumbling and parkour until after the London Olympics. (He broke his leg doing a double side last year.)

Click PLAY or watch it on YouTube.

Is it my imagination, or is Jason kicking out way earlier than in his Beijing routine?

Disclaimer: I competed Nationals Trampoline once, 1979. I ranked LAST in both Compulsories and Optionals, terminated on both routines. I’m no expert.

Alex Seifert – Tumbling, Double-mini

Canadian T&T athlete Alex Seifert, normally known for his clean form and elegant lines, gunned some more difficult routines at a “no limits competition“.

Full out, double lay, triple tuck

2011 Tokyo – (2012 London) – 2013 Antwerp

As rumoured, the FIG Executive Committee will “inform the Council” that there are “no travel bans” to Japan.

Therefore, there should be no discussion on whether to move the 2011 World Championships out of Japan.

The other big news:

· On behalf of the Council, the Executive Committee assigned the 44th artistic gymnastics world gymnastics 2013 to the Belgium federation, city of Antwerp.

Gymnastics Worlds STAY in Tokyo

So says Wolfgang Willam, sports director of the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) on this post via Google Translate:

Despite the reactor disaster in Fukushima find the gymnastics world championships as scheduled on 8 to 16 October in Tokyo. The surprise decision, the Executive Committee of the World Gymnastics Federation FIG in San Jose.

Originally, only the FIG-Council make in the next two days of the decision. “Due to the present facts and scientific expertise, the Executive Committee saw no reason to cancel the award to Tokyo,” said Wolfgang Willam …

I’m surprised too. Germany just some weeks ago pulled out of the Japan Cup. (German)

This is quite the controversial result. The easy way out would have been to move to Moscow.

Leave a comment if you hear otherwise from the meetings in San Jose.

Reporter @nrarmour says FIG will make a decision. @intlgymnast says it’s a done deal. We’re headed for Tokyo.

Personally, I’m happy to see it stay in Japan.

“sunshine” competitions 2012

Lindsay Gallego updates us on 4 meets hosted in Florida:

Dec. 30-31st ~ New Year’s Invite
Jan 27-29th ~ Sun & Surf
Feb 17-19th ~ Presidential Classic
Mar 2-4th ~ Tim Rand Invite

I find kids and parents are pretty excited to go to the beach that time of year.

New Year’s Invite – Dec 30-31 – at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. Disney is beautiful over the holidays. This is one of our smaller meets so is a great meet to “get the kinks out” and ease into the season while spending New Year’s at Disney. Competition will be on Friday and Saturday so families are able to travel on Sunday.

Sun & Surf Meet – Jan 27-29 – This is in Coral Springs, near Fort Lauderdale. 25 minutes from the beach and close to a huge shopping mall and other attractions.

Presidential Classic – Feb 17-19- This is our biggest event with both mens and womens competition. The meet is at the ESPN Sports Complex at Disney. Last year we had 1700 kids at the event.

Tim Rand Invite – March 2-4- This is our fastest growing event. We are having it for the first time this year at the Fort Lauderdale Beach Convention Center. The CC is nearby to the airport and the beach. This event also boasts a high level of competition at the optional levels. Something unique about this event is the athletes earn “twister bucks” at each event (for stuck landings, hit routines, powerful tumbling, etc). At the end of the meet we have shopping tables set up for the kids to spend their money. Also, $5 from each entry is donated to the Tim Rand Memorial Fund.

I want to thank these events for sponsoring GymnasticsCoaching.com. It’s much appreciated.
