Wish you were in here in sunny Long Beach.
… actually, it’s bleak and raining today. Yuck. … The weather cleared up. Cloudless blue sky. You should be here.
Coming up next:
… Held May 15, the Junior Olympic National Invitational Tournament (NIT), held in conjunction with the Women’s National Junior Olympic Championships, allows an additional 192 athletes an opportunity to compete at the national level.
Georgia Dabritz from ACE Gymnastics in Massachusetts tied for highest AA score at JO Championships 2011.
Unusually, she competes Bars with no hand guards.
Click PLAY or watch her on YouTube in 2010.
In a Gymnastike interview, she explains why.
I’m going to enjoy that Comaneci salto when she competes for Utah. Love that skill.
Level 10 Championships have finished.
The top 2 AA scores 2011 …
1T – Georgia Dabritz – Ace – 38.3
1T – Allison Flores – IGI – 38.3
Allison has signed with Arizona. Georgia will be a Ute. I’ll try to get some video posted of both.
Allison is from IGI in Chicago. I spoke to her coach, Todd Gardiner, and asked about the success of the Region 5 program. The secret? … Competition. His club must compete against Geddert’s and a dozen other excellent program. It forces everyone to improve.
See more of the top scores at JOs 2011.
But in 2011 it was the host region who was victorious: California, Nevada, Arizona and Utah. Congratulations. … This is only going to make Region 5 work harder.
Competition continues today with the NIT meet. These are girls who did not quite qualify for JOs. I’m sure we’ll see some surprises.
Here’s a drill I’ve never seen before.
… Twin City Twisters coach Rich Stenger shows us a drill they use to work on arm speed in the roundoff for yurchenko vaults.

A plea from CalicoIzzy on College Gym Board:
Please go watch the NCAA championships. Watch the terrific form, strong landings – great skills performed with excellence. Watch the former elite that never quite met your “standards” – Geralen Stack-Eaton, Natasha Kelley, Kayla Hoffman … watch how they blossomed in NCAA and found ways to perfect their gymnastics with LESS training time and more distractions.
Please note how many Level 10 gymnasts are now in the NCAA because fewer gymnasts choose to go elite.
I was thinking the same thing today … about the Level 10 J.O. Championships.
If Marta (or her successor) truly want to build a National program, she should reach out to hundreds of the best coaches in the USA at those two meets.
It seems a waste to me, that Marta is not making an appearance at both. Instead she waits until they get to her Camp, before making contact.
