coach Jae Su Chun blamed

… U.S. speed skater Simon Cho called Olivier Jean and apologized for tampering with his skates at last year’s short track world team championships.

On Friday, Cho held a media conference in his lawyer’s Salt Lake City office and explained why he deliberately sabotaged the skates of his Canadian rival. As he had told U.S. speed skating officials, Cho felt pressured to do so by U.S. coach Jae Su Chun, who has been accused by a dozen team members of “unchecked” verbal, psychological and physical abuse. …

Chun has continued to deny the complaints even during an independent investigation requested by U.S. Speedskating.

Romanians using grips

🙂

Mariana Bitang declared … the reconstruction of the team in view of the next quad has already started with Romania’s weakest apparatus: all gymnasts have started using grips on uneven bars.

… “We tried starting using them before, with a few girls. But if one of them didn’t get used to grips, she would give up and thus, in a team, in a meet it’s hard to prepare the bars because they are done differently. For instance for working with grips the bar has more chalk whereas for bare palms is prepared with honey, chalk and water and there must be uniformity in the team.”

… ”The one who tries to convince me she is unable to work with grips is Diana Bulimar but I told her that, at any risk, even if it means not going to any competition this fall, we will not take them off. …

unusual P Bar dismounts

Last week I helped out at Taiso, Saskatoon, as the Head Coach — Markos Baikos — was away at an international meet.

Parallel Bars dismounts are boring. Almost everyone competes double pike. A couple of the guys started playing with alternatives.

… Yes. They KNOW they need a double front like Charlie Tamayo. (VIDEO)

One reason I’m happy that Marcel is our Olympic Silver medalist in the AA is his very cool P Bar dismount.

SUPER GYMNASTICS FAN:

The only gymnasts I saw do a p bars dismount that wasn’t a double back piked at the 2012 Olympics:

1-2 Daniel Corral and Mykola Kuksenkov : Double front tucked
3. David Belyavskiy: Double front piked
4. Marcel Nguyen: full twisting double back
