banned – Thomas plus full

How could I have forgotten?

This is a banned skill, as GeoffTaucer tells:

This is a layout Thomas with an additional full twist — back one and three quarter salto with two and a half twists to dive roll. The skill is banned in gymnastics competitions because it is considered to be too dangerous. …

minor changes to MAG FIG rules

FIG MTC Committee member Steve Butcher from the USA gave us a rundown of changes — surprisingly few — at Congress.

He noted that half the committee wanted to ban roll out skills on Floor altogether (as has WAG) due to safety concerns. Concussion is the big concern. But a compromised was reached:

A maximum of 1 rollout salto may be performed in an exercise.

No rollout saltos may be executed in direct connection with any salto elements.

Most of the top guys will still include one layout Thomas, I predict. A few madmen will add an additional twist, proving the more cautious members of MTC correct. Nope. The Thomas with extra twist is already banned.

The Vault tables have been reworked. Lets wait and see if Vault scores are still disproportionately high next quad. It looks like they’ve been better brought in line.

Most disappointingly for me:

Horizontal Bar

No major changes

Though the Olympic Final on Pipe was fantastic, I still feel the rules are weakest on this apparatus. Crap and repetitive crap will continue to be rewarded.

I’ll paste the 6th August 2012 Major Changes in MAG Code of Points memo in the comments of this post.

Thanks Alex.

variations of 1-arm Air Flare

Mike sends a link to a compilation including a number of same arm Air Flares. (VIDEO)

But I’ll embed this one.

Click PLAY or watch Bboy FRESKI on YouTube. 4 Air Flares in sequence on 1-arm.

A few Bboys have commented that I don’t know what I’m talking about when it comes to Airmoves. … That’d be right.
🙂

Cinjin:

Within the Bboy community, there are two versions of the one handed airflare, this version (ABOVE) being the “illusion” type. I highly suggest looking up Bboy Punisher. He does a true one handed airflare.

MAG Routines iPad app

The Gymnastics Routine Maker Men is a tool to help gymnasts, trainers and coaches.

details – iTunes $3.99

Up to 24 athletes can be users of the one iPad. Each can compare multiple different routines on each apparatus.

It’s a work in process, still being updated. The new FIG Men’s Code will be used.

Here’s a screen grab showing Zonderland’s H Bar.

So far it’s only available for iPad, but versions for other platforms are in the works. A Women’s edition is planned, as well.

Grandi v Stoica v Titov

THE ALL AROUND:

Cancun will host the 79th FIG Congress from October 25-27. This Congress, among other things, will elect the new FIG President, and members of the Executive and Technical Committees.

For the first time in several years the current FIG President, Bruno Grandi, will run opposed in the figures of Adrian Stoica (ROU) and Vassily Titov (RUS). …

details – Grandi, Stoica & Titov present programs for FIG Presidency

So far as I can see, the incumbent is the favourite.

Stoica & Titov may simply be positioning themselves for the following election.

gymnastics video work flow?

I spent a couple of days last week shooting video with a pro, Chris Hutchinson, from Tumbl Trak. And learned a lot.

Chris gave me advice on how to set up my own system for capturing, editing and storing video clips.

Here’s my first DRAFT sketch up

If you have any advice, leave a comment on this post. Or over on my personal blog where I’ve posted my equipment and specific details.
