USA Gymnastics has reorganized management of the elite program for women’s gymnastics, dividing the responsibilities among Martha Karolyi of Huntsville, Texas, Valeri Liukin of Plano, Texas, and Stephen Rybacki of Upland, Calif.

Karolyi, the women’s national team coordinator since 2001, will continue as national team coordinator with a more exclusive focus on the national team. …

… Rybacki, who has served as chairman of the International Elite Coaches Committee and a member of the USA Gymnastics Board of Directors, will oversee the administrative duties for international competition and will travel with U.S. delegations. … He will remain based in California. …

Liukin will direct the women’s athlete developmental pipeline. He will handle the curriculum and direct all developmental camps, with a focus on education, as well as oversee the Talent Opportunity Program (TOPs). … He will remain based in Texas. …

Nice to see Valeri taking greater responsibility, but still having the option to stay coaching in his own gym.

CA Orchard in Saskatchewan

Chris Baraniuk hosted clinician Carol-Angela Orchard at a Gymnastics Saskatchewan training camp this past weekend.

Now based out of the U.K, CA has been traveling extensively in recent years.

… He also was selected to serve as a gymnastics judge for the past two Olympics, and an incident at the London Games this summer put him and some fellow judges in the spotlight.

He was serving as apparatus supervisor for the pommel horse during the men’s team championship, when Kohei Uchimura of Japan, who later became the all-around individual champion, had some problems on his dismount.

Butcher’s panel of judges did not give him credit for the dismount, and Butcher’s score agreed with them.

However, Japan’s coach put in an inquiry asking for an official review.

“The other members of the technical committee reviewed it and overturned it and gave him credit, and that moved Japan from fourth to second,” Butcher said. …

Olympia – 18.5hrs / week

… Shelby Township Michgan with Olympia Gymnastics. Olympia is owned by Lori Koch and is one of the top programs in Region 5 with many level 9 and 10 National Qualifiers along with many gymnasts competing in college. Olympia qualified 5 level 10 gymnasts to JO Nationals in 2012. This gym has also qualified an athlete in the elite arena with Alyssa Sherametaro competing at Classics and Visa Championships as a junior in 2010. Olympia combines the typical training programs with some unique qualities like still ring conditioning to develop their athletes.
