Cirque Worlds Away – a review
Sports Girls Play:
Letβs start with what I LOVED:
A $12 movie ticket is a lot less than the price of a ticket to a live Cirque show ($75+)
And now my not so favorite things about it:
The story line was definitely an afterthought and just a way to tie the various spotlights on the acts together. β¦
β¦ If you do go see Cirque du Soleil Worlds Away, see it in 3D ! β¦
Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away … incorporates acts from the seven Cirque du Soleil shows running in Las Vegas in 2011: O, MystΓ¨re, KΓ , Love, Zumanity, Viva Elvis and Criss Angel Believe. …
beautiful Ksenia Afanasyeva
Gymnast #391:
… Afanasyeva is just so damn artistic, her movements are really beautiful. …
When you watch her perform you just know it’s artistic. The way she moves is very elegant. There is something really regal about her. She’s majestic. …

Louis Smith, Paul Hall honoured
Olympic gymnast and Strictly Come Dancing winner Louis Smith has been appointed MBE (Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) in the New Year Honours.
The 23-year-old, from Peterborough, won silver at the London games and the Glitterball trophy for his television performances with dancer Flavia Cacace.
He said the MBE was “without a doubt the proudest moment of my life”.
His Team GB coach, Paul Hall, and Paralympian sprinter Johnnie Peacock, both from Cambridgeshire, have also been appointed MBE. …
β¦ Smith added: “I’m absolutely overjoyed for Paul and it’s incredible to know that he is being rewarded in this way for everything he has done for me and my team-mates, for Huntingdon Gymnastics Club and for the whole sport over the course of his career.” β¦
… Beth Tweddle will no longer be the only London 202 team member to hold an MBE, Louis Smith, British Gymnastics Head National Coach Amanda Reddin and Team GB coach Paul Hall will also receive honors. …

Mustafina’s ACL injury
Does twisting with the legs crossed increase the risk of injury on landing?
Certainly.
… but it’s not the only contributing factor. Nor the most critical.
Many ACL and ankle injuries are suffered on competition landings to gymnasts with legs together.
Korbut Flip put up a controversial post on this topic quoting avatareverlark:
Okay so the gymternet is going to pounce on me, but I have to say this.
A lot of people seem to think that Aliyaβs ACL injury was because of her crossed legs …
However, as an amateur physicist and mathematician, this justification for why she tore her ACL just never made sense to me. …
You can see Aliya’s 2011 injury happen at 45sec of this video.
That was not nearly one of Aliya’s worst vaults.
If you’ve an opinion, pounce on avatareverlark via Korbut Flip. π
Coaches should teach new gymnasts to twist with legs together. Al Fong is a role model on this.
Coaches should teach new gymnasts to land like Uchimura. The “motorcycle” position. That’s safest.
F.I.G. needs improve the Vault landing mat. Using the same surface as Double Mini would instantly reduce the number of injuries in competition.
