Halifax gymnasts NAT Champions

A year ago I called Hugh Smith and Ellie Black “unlikely Olympic contenders“.

Ellie made the Olympics. AND the Olympic Vault final.

Today the Haligonians are National Champions 2013.

Ellie advanced to three apparatus finals, which will be held on Saturday. Dave Kikuchi told me she’s been on a big roll of late, hitting routines with ease.

On the other hand, she had two falls on Bars day 1. And fell on Vault day 2.

Victoria Moors decided to withdraw from day 2 competition.

Hambüchen threatens to boycott

Hambüchen, who won his seventh German all-around title on Sunday, took second on floor exercise behind Matthias Fahrig in Tuesday’s apparatus finals. Hambüchen filed an inquiry into his 6.2 Difficulty score, and the score was corrected to 6.3, putting him ahead of Fahrig. After Hambüchen was announced as the gold medalist, however, the D-score was once again changed back to 6.2, and he was told he waited too long to file the inquiry.

The reversal outraged Hambüchen, 25. …

Pro Gym Challenge – night 3

Rope Climb was easily my favourite apparatus so far. 🙂

It definitely should have been a TIE.

That finish was too close to call.

And by what Code of Points does Kat Ding beat J Lo on Bars?
That’s a war crime Team USA. 😦

I’m for Shayla winning Beam. Or it being a tie. … Allowing appeals of tie breakers is a bit too messy for a fun event like this.

@Paul_Ruggeri is Pro Gym Challenge MVP.

Laura-Anne’s Bar dismount was clearly cleaner. Better. Judges got that one wrong.

OK …

Like most every reality TV show, the “competition” is silly. I’m not sure many of the competitors truly cared who WON.

Looking forward to Pro Gym Challenge 2014. :-0
