remember the name – Donnell Whittenburg

The U.S.A. has a lot of depth. One of the most intriguing up-and-coming talents is Donnell Whittenburg out of Ultimate Gymnastics Inc. in Baltimore.

He recently moved to the U.S. Olympic Training Center to focus on Gymnastics full-time.

Donny’s got plenty of potential on Floor and Vault.

Here he is finishing 7th on Vault in Senior at Championships 2013.

How about that physique?

In a hall full of muscle men, he looks the most ripped. Despite his youth, Donnell is already pulling out of strength holds. And competing double double layout!

Sure. Another good American AA who is weak on Pommels.

Nope.

Pommels is his favourite apparatus. He’s got potential.

I’m thinking Donnell will already be a candidate for Worlds 2014.

Dave Brubaker:

Over 500 in attendance at the 2013 Ontario Gymnastics Congress for the Launch of the new JO program in Ontario….Sue Arkell was an incredible clinician and gave a lot of amazing information during the congress and the Training Camp.

Clinicians Steve and Sue Arkell, and Joel Skinner came up for a WAG Developmental Camp for Levels 5-9.

I’m very excited that Ontario is moving yet closer to the most successful gymnastics system in the world — the American Junior Olympic & NCAA rules.

The rest of Canada will be watching closely.

Chinese Men at Worlds

We’ve not heard much about the defending Olympic Champions.

Uncle Tim weighs in:

No matter how you present the statistics, the Chinese men have dominated the past 5 World Championships.

MAG-World-Totals-

… It looks like China will be sending a relatively inexperienced team to the World Championships.

The country’s current list consists of Zhang Hongtao, Zhou Shixiong, Lin Chaopan, You Hao, Liu Yang, and Zhang Zhongbo. Of these gymnasts, Zhang Hongtao has the most international experience, having won gold on pommel horse in 2009. …

Yao Jinnan – Mo Salto

When we saw Yao doing the G element in a belt, I had no confidence she’d actually try putting it in a routine.

But here it is in training.

Rhythmic judging drama

32nd FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships

Recall that FIG tried to discipline Rhythmic judges.

August 22 – Natalia Kuzmina, President of the Rhythmic Gymnastics Technical Committee, has claimed there is an ulterior motive behind the recent spate of disciplinary action against officials in the discipline as the sport’s world governing body “is trying to discredit rhythmic gymnastics from the list of Olympic sports”.

Speaking to insidethegames, the Russian who was elected in October last year to cover the current Olympic cycle claimed everyone is “appalled” at how the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has treated senior figures in the discipline, including how it launched action against attendees at a series of judges’ courses based on “unproven and ill-grounded allegations”. …

Inside The Games

I’m not appalled.

From what I’ve “heard”, cheating on the new cycle judging exams was blatant.

Many impossible scores.

Judges know about impossible scores.

A NY Times article confirms what’s stated in the link above: that an appeal tribunal dismissed FIG sanctions against rhythmic gymnastics judges. The accused will keep their brevets.

We’re waiting on an official statement from FIG itself.
