best Victorian Cross EVER

The “inverted swallow” or “inverted Maltese” was a skill of fiction until just a few years ago. I thought it was physiologically impossible.

It is possible.

But not many of the guys who tried it got close to straight and horizontal.

Ali Zahran of Egypt is about to redefine expectations for hold position.

If he competes back lever pull to Victorian in Antwerp, it will be given an F value. And named for Zahran.

It’s one of 16 new men’s elements accepted for evaluation by FIG MTC.

MAG coaches should follow Uncle Tim. He’s watching every video coming out of Antwerp and posting the best on his site.

This one was linked from Men’s Podium Training Round-Up: Part 2.

You’re right. That’s not Elizabeth Seitz.

gymm confirms it’s Ida Gustaffson from Sweden. Sweet, girl! 🙂

Despite her many form breaks, Elizabeth really impressed me in Podium training today. She’s so aggressive. So tough.

Anne Phillips is at #WChAntwerp for Gymnastike. The hardest working person in media, I’d say.

piibunina‘s here too, uploading Podium videos. These will stop during the competition. After the TV cameras arrive.

Yao Jinnan – Bars

Easily her best apparatus today at #WChAntwerp Podium training.

I’m not a big fan of the Mo. But the rest of the routine is pretty awesome.

Brenna Dowell – Bars

Decision at #WChAntwerp.

Do you compete Mckayla Maroney on Beam / Bars?

Or Brenna?

Click PLAY or watch it on YouTube.

To be fair, the miss on the straddle back half was edited out. That’s been Brenna’s problem on that extremely difficult set.

Brenna Dowell is one awesome athlete. Ask anyone who’s trained with her.

Brenna

Biles, Maroney, Ross AA

Brenna Dowell is alternate. Will not compete.

Worlds 2013 USA

details – Biles, Maroney, Ross will compete in the all-around at 2013 World Gymnastics Championships

Breanna is a terrific alternate. If any of the 3 AAs get injured, she could step in instantly.

I believe they hoped Brenna could stabilize her Bars in time. Hoped she could qualify to the Bar final. That’s not going to happen now.

Downside?

Mckayla is not nearly as prepared for Bars and Beam as she’d like to be. It’s not critical that she compete those here. But for 2014 Worlds and beyond, Marta doesn’t want to carry a specialist — if possible.

The official word from Marta:

“We have decided that Kyla Ross will be in the First Subdivision, Simone Biles in Third and McKayla Maroney in the fourth subdivision – they will (each) go on all four events,” Karolyi told us. “McKayla picked up the preparations very well and she showed much better consistency on those two events, so we felt that she definitely could be a contender in the All-Around scene and that’s why we decided this way.”

Hong Su Jong & Hong Un-Jong

Hong Un Jong (born March 9, 1989 ?? in Hamgyong, North Korea) is a North Korean artistic gymnast. She is the 2008 Olympics gold medalist in Vault.

Watch her Amanar from FISU 2013 on Gymnastike.

It looked about the same today at #WChAntwerp Podium training.

Update. Here’s the best one from today. Click PLAY or watch it on YouTube.

On the other hand, she landed only 2 of 6 attempts. And trained no second vault.

Inside Gymnastics heard that here at Worlds she had submitted for triple twisting Yurchenko.

That looks pretty unlikely to me. Unless she throws one in the Vault final.

Seems to me this family is famous enough already.

Hong Su Jong … is the 2007 World silver medalist on the vault. She competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in the all-around and in the team event.

She is the older sister or possibly twin sister of Hong Un Jong. …

Hong was suspended for two years, from late 2007 to late 2009, following a positive test for furosemide at the Good Luck Beijing pre-Olympic test event. …

North Korea was banned from taking part in the 2010 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, as the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique announced it was not satisfied with the explanation provided by North Korea for having entered Hong Su Jong with three different birth dates (1985, 1986 or 1989), in different competitions. In particular, she had taken part in the 2004 Olympics claiming to have been born in 1985; her subsequently announced birth date of 1989 meant that she would have been too young to compete in 2004. …

Kyla Ross podium training

The star of the 1st official podium training session at Worlds.

For #WChAntwerp Champion 2013, it’s going to be difficult to finish ahead of Kyla.

Moustafina could do it, but she’d better be near perfect.

Simone could do it, but she’d need a very good day.

You need to go slo mo to see errors in Kyla’s super consistent DTY.

Brenna trained Vault and Bars. Did not touch the Beam that I saw. But did do a little Floor.
