Beyond the Routine: Laurie Hernandez

One of our favourite gymnasts. 🙂

… U.S. Junior National team member and 2016 Olympic hopeful Laurie Hernandez of MG Elite. Hernandez and coach Maggie Haney saw a quick rise to the top in 2013. She skyrocketed from 21st all around at the 2012 National Championships to 2nd all around in 2013. …

gymnastics in Nepal?

When I was there for a month in November I tried to contact the National Federation.

No luck.

There was a club next door to where I was staying in Bhaktapur — but it was never open.

Gymnastics Nepal

Does anyone have an update on what’s happening with acrobatic sports in Nepal?

If so, leave a comment.

monitoring routines

Dani and her teammates at IEGA have colour coded charts tracking routines.

Even more important to me is the number of routines HIT in series in the days leading up to competition. 🙂

NCAA Champions 2014 Oklahoma

I love the NCAA.

One of the few failures of that league, however, is that results are so predictable. Only 5 teams have ever won the Championship.

Florida won for the first time in 2013. It would be awesome if Oklahoma won for the first time in 2014. 🙂

Alyssa Pritchett training Elite

Double Double:

… The (UCLA recruited) walk-on who became a key player as an upperclassmen, has been training with the hopes of qualifying as elite for the first time.

I got the opportunity to talk to Alyssa about her past at Wildfire Gymnastics in Tustin, California, and UCLA, and her current training at Waller’s GymJam Academy in Santa Clarita, California. …

6. When did you realize that you wanted to continue doing gymnastics?

After Nationals. I remember standing there by our fourth place sign thinking, this can’t be it. I love this sport way to much to give it up. I didn’t know what I would be doing exactly, but I knew I was not about to quit.

I actually even tried to petition for a 6th year since I was injured for most of my freshman and sophomore year as well, but I didn’t make one of the qualifications.

Competing in PGC only fired me up more to continue gymnastics, and then I thought, why don’t I just completely go for it and train elite? So that’s exactly what I decided to do.
