This weeks Workout Wednesday, we take look at a regional championships preparation workout from one of the top producing gyms in the country Southeastern Gymnastics. Southeastern is located outside of Charlotte, North Carolina and has a long history of great gymnasts in the JO and college arenas. We filmed this workout on April 1st, two weeks before the Region 8 Championships.

It won’t be difficult to remember the name of Daniel Iley, the Edinburgh-born gymnast.
He’s hoping to qualify to the Commonwealth Games Team competing in Scotland this summer.
He admits that things can get confusing on the Daniel front. “Dan Purvis is ‘Danny P’ and Dan Keatings we refer to as ‘Keatings’. I’m ‘Apples,'” said Iley.

With Purvis, Keatings and Baines in stellar form, it is his belief that everyone else is realistically battling it out for two spots. “I do feel sorry for whoever has to make that decision because it’s going to be tough one,” said Iley. “We have three guys who are among the best in the world and they are going to be the core of the team.
“Then there are six or seven of us fighting for those two remaining places. …

May 9th we’ll learn more about how FIG World Cup meets will lead to Olympic qualification.
FIG Press Operations Officer Philippe Silacci:
“The FIG will dramatically redesign its calendar and thereby its Olympic qualifications system,” he stressed.
Silacci went on to say that the new rules will not affect the tournaments within the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics, and will come into effect at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
“The objective is Tokyo 2020. Indeed, such decisions will affect all the rules that govern artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics and trampoline gymnastics: Codes of Points and Technical Regulations,” he said.
Silacci also stressed that time will be necessary to adjust and to test all the new procedures. …
