There were a LOT of high scores over the past 2 weekends.

Illinois tied their 2nd highest score in team history.

The Illini were paced by three career-high all-around scores, led by junior Giana O’Connor’s near-school record total of 39.600. O’Connor took the all-around title, one of three individual titles on the day, nearly matching Alina Weinstein’s Illinois all-around mark of 39.625 in the process.

Sophomore Mary Jane Horth tied the fourth-best all-around score in Illinois history with a 39.550 to finish second behind O’Connor. Sophomore Erin Buchanan also had a career-day in the all-around, posting a score of 39.325. …

Fighting Illini

University of Iowa had a fantastic meet in the loss, 196.370, well above their previous season high 195.725 against Maryland.

I’m impressed.

Kids back home on The Rock are cheering Team Newfoundland.

These are one of those silly Games where Newfoundland (population 527,00) competes one-on-one with Ontario. (population 13 million). Yet if you propose to merge the 4 teams from Atlantic Canada provinces, don’t expect any love for that idea from the east coast. 🙂

“Sooner Magic” was in the air in McCasland Field House on Saturday evening as the top-ranked University of Oklahoma turned in a performance for the ages in its home opener versus defending national champion Michigan. The Sooners shattered the NCAA team record with a score of 456.400, besting the previous mark of 447.850 by Penn State in 2013. …
