Not the rivalry it once was. But still one of the biggest meets of the season for both teams. Loud and proud crowd.

The No. 11 Gym Dogs took on No. 5 Alabama at home Friday, Feb. 20, 2015. The team set season-highs on vault and beam and individuals had seven career-highs but slips on floor cost Georgia the meet as it fell 197.675-196.825.

UPDATE: gymbot points out that the good ladies of the FIG fixed one of their many naming mistakes in the Code of Points.

If you check the current edition you’ll see the Salto fwd stretched with 2 1/2 twist (900°) is now named for Sabina Cojocar ROU from Worlds 2001 Ghent (BEL).

Georgetown College adds NCATA

The sport of “Acrobatics and Tumbling” continues to grow. 🙂

“Congratulations to NCATA for continuing to build the acrobatics and tumbling varsity programs,” said Steve Penny, president of USA Gymnastics. “The addition of Georgetown College extends the opportunities for women to enjoy competing in acrobatics and tumbling for their university while gaining an education.”

In addition to the announcement of the sport, Georgetown College has also announced the hiring of Alicia Castagneto as the first coach in program history. Castagneto arrives in Georgetown after coaching acrobatics & tumbling for 10-plus years, additionally serving 12 years as a judge for USA Gymnastics, most recently at Southern California Elite Gymnastics Academy. …

Varsity collegiate competition began in the Spring of 2011 and Acrobatics & Tumbling was adopted as a discipline of USA Gymnastics in 2013. NCATA member institutions include all levels of the NCAA – Division I, II, and III. …
