UCLA 197.425, Zamarripa 39.675

No. 2 UCLA upended No. 5 Utah in a dual meet on Saturday evening in Pauley Pavilion, scoring a national season-best 197.425, while Utah scored 195.300. UCLA senior Vanessa Zamarripa won the all-around with a 39.675 and captured first place on three events …

UCLA Bruins

UCLA

… I’m not worried about Utah. This was a poor performance by their standards, but after bars it was perfectly acceptable for a first meet. I was surprised that the veterans were the ones who looked the most tentative on bars. UCLA was worlds better than they were last week, and we certainly saw that in the score. They have clearly been working those landings and will be the team in the rankings next week …

Fun meet overall. I loved the live TV coverage and look forward to more of it. The much higher production quality than we get on the live streams gives a better sense of atmosphere for those who aren’t in attendance.

Teaser for an upcoming sport documentary. No gymnastics.

In an age where success is often measured by fame and fortune alone, the purpose of sport is lost in the economic drive to commercialize all aspects of life. This documentary series seeks to draw out the possibilities of what sport can teach people through the eyes of local amateur athletes.

This project was developed as part of an artist in residency with Sport Calgary and Calgary 2012.

Aly proved me wrong, over and over again. And Marta right.
