Head Over Heels About Gymnastics

Head Over Heels About Gymnastics is a child friendly picture book written by Gemma Coles that introduces aspiring young gymnasts to the basics of gymnastics. Through photographs and easy to follow steps, the author guides you through the essential floor skills, and includes little helpful tips along the way!

… Overall I found this book very well written, and I would certainly recommend it to any parent interested with helping their young gymnast succeed.

Brazil slow to hire Mark Goto

Mark Goto, coach of Olympic Rings Champion Arthur Zanetti, was chosen by the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) as one of the two best “technicians” in 2012. He received an award for Best Coach of the Year during the Brazil Olympic Award ceremony on 18 December.

Zanetti Goto

It was an amazing upset result.

Yet the Best Coach of the Year was not offered a contract by the Brazilian Gymnastics Confederation (CBG) at the end of December.

Arthur Zanetti was extremely pissed, loudly criticizing the Brazilian sport system in the media.

It sounds like Luciene Resende, president of CBG, finally confirmed the renewal of Goto’s contract. But this is more bad press for Gymnastics in the Olympic host nation.

I’m getting all this garbled by Google Translate.

Leave a comment if you’ve got more specific information on whether or not Arthur is happy with the resolution.

This is the home gym of Colombian 2008 Olympian Nathalia Sánchez, though she wasn’t training the morning I was there.

Head Coach Andres Llanos Gerardino and I are leading a 5-day FIG Age Group Camp starting today at the National Training Center.

The club hosted the Region 5 WAG all-star team last October, recall.

Woodward Des Moines?

Shawn Johnson announced some big and surprising news.

Lunchables and Shawn Johnson inspire kids to lunch their tummies right.

Since her retirement in June, the 2008 Olympic gold medalist has appeared on a second season of Dancing With the Stars and been working on a variety of projects. None has her more excited than a gym that she plans to open with Woodward Camp in West Des Moines this year, the newspaper reports.

Johnson said the facility will be a place for children to try a variety of sports from BMX to gymnastics. She said she’ll be helping to design the curriculum.

“I’ve never been this excited about a project,” Johnson told USA Today. “Kids and fitness and exercise and having the freedom to learn what you want to do is kind of my passion. I feel like gymnastics was a little restrictive in not allowing me to have freedom and to be able to give that option is our main focus.” …

Flippin’ Awesome with Aly

Aly Raisman is hosting some sort of kid’s weekly YouTube TV show featuring random sports clips submitted by users.

She looks comfortable on screen. But the choice of clips in the first episode are questionable at best. Wipe outs are included so I’ll not embed.
