GymCastic asked me a standard interview question — What’s been the highlight of your life in Gymnastics?

I said it was my earliest coaching years. First Nationals. First time teaching a new skill. My days as a young coach were best of all.

One of the girls recently circulated some photos from those years. Here’s one.

I’m a little disappointed with my home girl Stephanie McGregor. 🙂

The graduating senior earned a degree in bioengineering while participating in the Honors College, and finished her academic career at Oregon State with a 3.97 GPA, earning her the Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year award. …

I love it when young people have a terrific experience in College sport. But there’s always the risk they won’t come home.

Too bad Canadian Interuniversity Sport no longer offers Gymnastics. Canada loses many of their best athletes to the USA.

Arabian Punch Front – Montage Monday: Beyonce:

Emma Fischer/@EmmsDream made this great montage to Beyonce‘s 1+1 using some of the footage from Beyonce’s music video and the recent video that McKayla Maroney and Jordyn Wieber did for 30 Seconds to Mars.

I think it came out really well and I like that it’s different – I like the effects that are used and I like the overlay between the 2 videos. McKayla enjoyed this video too and favorited it on twitter.

Don Gardiner made gymnastics come alive in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho in 1979. Through the years he has influenced the lives of many young people helping them to learn to release energy in a positive way.

Including me. 🙂

This fall … the opening of Kyle Shewfelt Gymnastics, an 11,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility in the city’s southeast that will offer gymnastic programming to Calgarians of all ages.

“It’s going to start out with a purely recreational focus,” he notes of the centre that will be located near the Deerfoot Casino, “with the intention to have a competitive program later.”
