Michigan State University’s Zach Hambrick:
“The evidence is quite clear,” he writes, “that some people do reach an elite level of performance without copious practice, while other people fail to do so despite copious practice.”
Hambrick and colleagues analyzed 14 studies of chess players and musicians, looking specifically at how practice was related to differences in performance. Practice, they found, accounted for only about one-third of the differences in skill in both music and chess.
So what made up the rest of the difference?

Tumbling/Gymnastics Coach at Michigan Xtreme Cheer & Dance
Tony’s been at the famed, historic, sprawling NY YMCA Camp for 30 years. First as a gymnast, then as Camp Director.
A grand Camp history. Gorgeous setting less than an hour from Manhattan.
For 2013, with boundless energy, Tony organized 3 Camps:
1) Tumbl Trak Choose Your Habits (June 21)
2) Gym Momentum Camp (June 21-23)
3) National Gymnastics Training Camp (June 23-28 and June 30 – July 5)
The facility is excellent.
Staff top notch.
I assisted Daire Oceallag on Bars. He’s Head Coach Acro-Tex, Austin, a superb Camp coach.
It was a great honour to finally meet Ivan Ivanov, USA National Developmental Team Coach, Olympian. Head Coach Elite Gymnastics, Ashland, MA.
Gym Momentum Camp is high intensity, focused only on high level Gymnastics.
NGTC is the full Camp experience: Gymnastics, Gymnastics, horse back riding, waterfront, movie nights, crafts, skits, Gymnastics, campfires, end-of-week Gym Show. A great chance to make new lifelong friends.
Tony had plenty of Canadians at Camp this year. … For some reason female gymnasts are keen on traveling to NY City. 🙂 Only the meanest coaches (e.g. Daire) don’t schedule a SHOPPING trip to the Big City.

I cannot understand why FIG WTC has not clamped down on Handspring double front vaults for Women, almost all of which have been extremely dangerous.

When one of these gymnasts is badly injured on live TV, what possible defense can be made for a set of rules that puts athletes in Finals by risking their lives? 😦
You could ban this family of skills. Or so severely deduct imperfect execution that no woman doing it less perfectly than the men could ever make Finals.
