synchro giants on a truck

George Thomas:

Each summer the community of Woodinville, Washington hosts a parade featuring local businesses and civic organizations.

On Saturday, August 10, Eastside Gymnastics Academy showed up with a number of their recreational and high school team athletes marching in front of a giant flatbed truck, donated for the event by Boise Cascade, upon which coach Jason Farr mounted two strap bars and some mushrooms.

Several coaches and athletes swung giants down the Main Street parade route, which resulted in the club’s promotional brochures being snapped up by the greatly entertained curbside parents and kids.

Laser Beam now available

The brainchild of coaching legend Leonard Isaac, any apparatus that gives the gymnast more visual feedback is a no brainer.

Why has this innovation taken so long?

And how quickly will other equipment manufacturers copy the idea?

I prefer the PRO. It’s going to be the most popular low Beam in your Gym for new skills and combinations.

what is twerking?

Are you so old that you don’t know this recent dance craze?

Don’t tell me you’re still watching Gangnam Style parodies. 🙂

Twerking is a dance move that involves a person shaking their upper hips and lower hips in an up and down bouncing motion, causing them to shake, ‘wobble’ and ‘jiggle.'” To “twerk” means to “dance in a sexually suggestive fashion …”

The song (“Pop That”) … along with “Express Yourself” by Nicky Da B & Diplo, “Made twerking the most popular dance move since the Dougie“. …

In 2013, 33 students from Scripps Ranch High School were suspended for using school equipment to make a twerking video on school grounds that was later uploaded to YouTube. …

I’d advise a no Twerking at the Gym Club rule.

Love it. Note that beginners may stay straighter (like Free Hip) and later increase the amount of hip flexion (like Stalder). The Stalder style is more powerful, if they have the physical ability for it.

1978 Worlds

Soviet coverage.

Strasbourg World Championships. Rivalry between the Soviet Union and Romania was at its height; only a few months earlier the Romanian team had walked out of the European Championships, held in Prague, as national coach Bela Karolyi bitterly contested scores and alleged cheating by the East German and Soviet-led judging panels.

In the Soviet Union women’s team there had been a changing of the guard since the 1976 Olympics. Key new faces on the team included the eventual all around champion, Elena Mukhina, and bronze medallist, Natalia Shaposhnikova. Legends Ludmilla Tourischeva, Olga Korbut and Elvira Saadi had left the playing field, and now Nelli Kim led the team, alongside the young veteran of the 76 Games, Maria Filatova.

The video below, a Soviet produced, black and white information programme, shows important gymnastics from these Championships, including all of Elena Mukhina’s routines. …
