redemption in the AA for Romania

After the disaster of prelims – (the superpower did not qualify a team directly to Rio) – the AA final was very good for Larisa and Laura.

Not that the Romanian Gymnastics Federation should turn down money for a new Bars coach. 🙂 Someone would have to be crazy to deny they need some help.

Why do they use Free Hip rather than the easier, more consistent sole circle skills? That baffles me.

Kenzo Shirai – Floor

Three chances to count the twists. Worlds 2015 Glasgow.

Kenzo is young. Getting stronger. Trains even more difficulty than this.

If the Code changes to 8 counting skills rather than 10, he’ll still be the man to beat on Floor in the next Olympic Cycle. The Cycle leading to the Tokyo Olympics. 🙂

Horton – layout double double

Don’t count Jon Horton out of Rio. If the USA can select 3 solid Pommel routines, Jon could be a good fit. Still improving.

Mai Murakami 6th at Worlds

One of the real highlights of Glasgow 2015. 🙂

Mai Murakami, who made the Japanese team as an alternate, took advantage of the opportunity to compete by placing sixth in the women’s all-round final at the world Gymnastic Championships …

Murakami turned in strong performances in the floor and vault to finish with 57.132 points, … Japan’s best finish since Koko Tsurumi won a bronze medal in 2009. …

The very good question asked by the gymternet is … “Who’s bright idea was it to make Mai Murakami the alternate in the first place?”

no NCAA Apparatus Finals at Nationals

NCAA Gym News:

NCAA logo 300

The Division I Competition Oversight Committee approved a change to the format of the NCAA championships this week that will result in the elimination of the individual event finals to make way for live television coverage of the event starting in 2016.

Because of the change, ESPN has agreed to broadcast both preliminary subdivisions as well as the Super Six finals on national television. The semifinals will be held at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. ET while the finals will be at 9 p.m. Saturday. All broadcasts are set to air on ESPNU.

While there won’t be a separate day for event finals, individual champions will still be crowned. Gymnasts with the highest scores on each of the four events after combining scores from both sessions will be announced the winners after prelims along with the all around champion. …

With the new format, six judges will be stationed at each event with the high and low score being dropped and the remaining four being averaged to come up with the final total. This should help with ties in event competition. In the past, four judges were at each event with the middle two scores being averaged while six judged event finals. …

Event Finals Eliminated from NCAA Championships

Let’s wait and see how it works.

NCAA.com shows competition only on April 15-16th. Not the usual 3 days.

Marian said he feels Oleg’s is most similar to his own. Tight tuck.

Florian Landuyt – Achilles

I’ve not seen official statistics as yet, but it sounds like we had about 6 serious injuries at Worlds 2015. About 1% of the competitors suffered injuries in Glasgow that will require months of recovery.

Florian is an up-and-coming gymnast from Belgium, happy to have qualified for the AA Final last minute.

But on take-off for double double on Floor, he snapped an Achilles. 😦

Artistic Gymnastics is a dangerous sport. 😦 We need to do more to reduce that rate.

Instead it’s crazy Kenzo stuff. 🙂
