Greece cancels National Championships

The Hellenic (Greek) Gymnastics Federation announced Tuesday it has cancelled the upcoming national championships, leaving its top stars shocked and frustrated with the decision.

“All I can say is that everything seems to go from bad to worse,” rings specialist Eleftherios Petrounias told Greek media on Tuesday. … Seriously we didn’t ever expect that we wouldn’t even have the chance to compete at the Greek championships, even traveling at our own expense.”

The federation cancelled the event after the Greek Olympic Committee urged a boycott Monday of all national sports competition from April 12-13, to protest the Greek government’s actions amid the nation’s ongoing financial crisis. …

World Autism Day

Wednesday, April 2, 2014 is World Autism Day. One of only four official health-specific United Nations Days, this annual day focuses on bringing the world’s attention to autism.

One in 88 children are affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). And the number of children with autism continues to grow. Between 2007 and 2012 there was a 78 percent increase in reported diagnoses. …

Traditional therapy options include behaviour and communication therapies, educational therapies, family therapies and medications.

Another option is gymnastics. Yes, gymnastics!
