The University of Arkansasβ Katherine Grable grabbed two titles today at the 2014 NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships at the Birmingham (Ala.) Convention Complex Arena. Grable and Louisiana State Universityβs Rheagan Courville tied for the vault title, while 2008 Olympic silver medalist Bridget Sloan of the University of Florida won the uneven bars title. The University of Oklahomaβs Taylor Spears took top honors on the balance beam. Grable also won the floor title.

The routine of the night was Kat Grable’s FX. I don’t see it on YouTube yet. Here’s the set from Friday night.

The winning Floor MUST be entertaining. This routine is. … Unfortunately it’s difficult to assess entertainment value on YouTube. You had to be there in person. π
I love College gymnastics. Hell, I wear an NCAA Gymnastics baseball cap and promote the sport wherever I go.
Good news – Lloimincia Hall went viral over the past 2 weeks.

All sorts of people suddenly became aware of women’s gymnastics NOT in the Olympics.
Dvora Meyers in The Archipelago:
At the end of the Good Morning America segment, the anchor foolishly asked, βWill Hall ever go for the gold at the Olympics?β
Perfect 10 – Thereβs a lot more to womenβs gymnastics than the Olympics
That’s a great article. Dvora tries to explain Gymnastics to the great unwashed.
Sadly, like last season, she did not qualify to the NCAA Floor Final today. Lloimincia nailed the double layout perfectly, but stumbled slightly on another landing in prelims. That’s enough to take you out under current College judging.
I’d love to see the #1 ranked routine get a bye into the apparatus final. π
Her fans should cheer teammate Jessica Savona, instead.
Anna Burns:
Congrats to co-champions Oklahoma and Florida! This was such an amazing meet!

LSU and Alabama have more difficult tumbling than Florida and Oklahoma. But it wasn’t enough of a difference maker in 2014.
Many will be comparing Sooners and Gators routine-by-routine to decide on who actually won.
It’s close. But I’d give the slight advantage to Florida if I had to break the tie.
For one thing, Sloan was on fire. She would have won the AA if it had been last night rather than Friday.
As I predicted?
In a season filled with record-breaking performances, the LSU gymnastics team set one more record by earning the highest finish in school history with a 197.600 to take third place at the NCAA Super Six Finals Saturday night in BJCC Arena.
The previous best finish was fourth place in the 1988 season β¦
βWe wanted to win the national title, and thereβs no question about that,β LSU head coach D-D Breaux said. βWith that said, we put forth a great effort tonight, and I know we can walk out of here with our heads held high. ⦔
The Tigers were tigers. Great meet. But Florida and Oklahoma were even better that night.
We’ll not soon forget Super 6 2014. π
Sounds like she did the double twist by … accident. π
