Atlantis Crown Invite, Bahamas

How does a competition in the Bahamas sound?

Dec 21-24, 2014

Svetlana Boguinskaia was special guest in 2013.

Atlantis

The Atlantis Paradise Island is a resort and water park located on Paradise Island, The Bahamas. Officially opened in 1998 …

This resort features the most expensive hotel room in the world. But for families competing at the meet, it’s astonishingly good value. Even at Christmas.

Room rental includes all resort attractions.

I’m in the Bahamas now, chatting with some of the meet organizers. It sounds great. 🙂

UCLA Bruins 2015

I’ve got a good feeling. 🙂

They’ll be the most watched, most anticipated line-up of next season.

When Sam Peszek unexpectedly missed in the Bar final, my first thought was … “Sam’s not going to want to go out on that routine.”

Happy happy us.

Ten-time All-American and Olympic silver medalist Samantha Peszek will return to the UCLA gymnastics team in 2015 for a fifth season. Peszek sat out the 2013 season with an Achilles injury and has one year of eligibility remaining. …

“Sam has really taken a strong leadership stance going into spring training, and we are obviously thrilled that she has decided to take her fifth year,” Kondos Field said. “I feel she’s going to be as valuable in a leadership role as she will be on the competition floor.”

And the great news keeps coming! Jennifer Pinches has also confirmed that she will be back in 2015!

Christine “Peng Peng” Lee will be a big addition to the team for 2015. Sydney Sawa, who had an astonishingly successful final year, is moving to Vancouver B.C. for a very interesting study year.

When UCLA won in 2010, I recall Chris Waller saying that the coaches did nothing different. That season Anna Li and the team “decided” they were going to win. And they did.

what is Bossaball?

Bossaball is a team sport that originated in Spain and was conceptualized by Belgian Filip Eyckmans in 2004 . It is similar to volleyball, but also includes elements of football (soccer), gymnastics and capoeira. …

The word “bossa”, which is sometimes translated as style, flair or attitude in Portuguese, is commonly associated with Bossa Nova, a samba influenced type of Brazilian music. The name Bossaball, therefore, expresses the aim to combine sports, music and positive vibrations.

In fact, music is a major component of a Bossaball show. The person overseeing the game is called the “samba referee” and does not only make calls but also serves as the Master of Ceremonies with the help of a whistle, a microphone, percussion instruments and an exotic DJ set.

what is “Acrobatics & Tumbling”?

The National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association is to my mind the best of the many forms of what the general public might call cheerleading.

In a shocker, Azusa Pacific acrobatics and tumbling team recently defeated defending champion Oregon. That snapped the Ducks 31-meet winning streak stretching back over four seasons.

Oregon had been considered invincible, possibly due to Erika Schaefer’s gameday hairstyle. 🙂

Larisa Iordache – 59.200

Last Saturday, France hosted in Avoine a “friendly” match against Romania and Belgium. There were two separate team and all around competitions, first for the juniors, followed by a “match” for the seniors.

In the senior team competition Romania placed first with a total score almost nine points above second place France -172.600 compared to 163.800). Third place Belgium managed to put some pressure on the host nation …

For Romania, the biggest scores were brought by Larisa Iordache. She was the winner of the all around title after obtaining the best scores of the competition for each of the four events. …

Iordache was followed by two team mates: Diana Bulimar (56.300) and Stefania Stanila (56.000). …
