For over 3 decades led by their respective Coaches Sarah Patterson & Suzanne Yoculan, these two programs have been the best in the nation. Yet, as intense as the competition on the floor was, nothing was more heated than the rivalry between these two extraordinary coaches!

The BEST of many good Beam routines at Westerns was Haley de Jong from Flicka competing in the NOVICE Age Group division. She scored 15.900 from a 17.5 start score (including bonus). Next highest in her division was 15.5 difficulty.
That was prelims.
I was ready for her Finals routine. 🙂

Not quite as HIT as prelims. She competed layout layout series in that routine. But still wonderful. Meaningless as this probably is to you, her Finals score was 14.40 from 16.70 start, with bonus.

Kristi Marks sends this video. At a young age Sam was diagnosed with osteochondritis dissecans (OCD), formerly called Little Leaguer’s elbow. She cannot put much weight on that one elbow.
She loves gym and refused to give it up. Today she’s a 2 event specialist, Beam and Floor. Sam’s won floor at every meet she entered this year.

Indiana gymnasts Bridget Sloan and Samantha Peszek were two of the six Americans who competed for gold against China at the Beijing Olympics, and came away with silver. …
“Elite can be very stressful,” Sloan said. “You’re vying for a spot on a team of six with 16 other girls. It’s definitely tough. Coming to college kind of made me realize that gymnastics is fun again.”

Already, 63 gymnasts a part of the class of 2016 have verbally committed to a collegiate gymnastics program, according to the College Gym Fans recruiting database. Two of those commits are twin sisters Anna and Grace Glenn who verbally committed to UCLA Dec. 29, 2012 when they were just 14 years old. …

They train at Southeastern Gymnastics in Weddington, N.C. under coaches Ludmilla Shobe, Galina Meliakina and Georgiy “Egor” Grebenkov.
Seems to me the NCAA needs more stringent rules about early recruiting.
